Medico and Healthcare

CENTER FOR HEALTHCARE > Good recruitment opportunities, high international-class research, fascinating development environments and investments in the largest hospital project in Scandinavia testifies to a large and partly unutilised potential for health related businesses wanting to establish themselves in Aarhus.

The largest hospital project in Scandinavia

The New University Hospital in Skejby will become the largest hospital in Denmark and one of the largest hospital cities in Northern Europe, with a nearly 1.25 mio sqm site area and a 380,000 sqm total construction area. International-class health insurance

With almost 1,000 researchers employed in health related disciplines, the health scientific and scientific research has unique conditions in Aarhus. The acknowledged research environment at the University of Aarhus has a well established collaboration with the business community as well as the public healthcare.

At Aarhus University Hospital the goal is partly to gain international acknowledgement for its research and development, but at the same time to create new knowledge, that will ensure the highest quality healthcare services for the patients.

Education

Aarhus constitutes an educational cluster within the field of healthcare. The health related lines of education in Aarhus holds around 6,000 undergraduates and more than 1,500 graduate students, of which more than 500 are studying at PhD level. The excellent research environment combined with the many students ensures health related businesses great recruitment opportunities of highly educated labour.

The easy access to high international-class research and the exciting developmental environments and investments are contributing to a growing number of health related businesses settling in Aarhus.

Focus on sports, physical activities and experiences

There is an increased global focus on physical activity. This is particularly evident in the experience industry, where a massive expansion is seen in relation to exercise and professional sports, but also in relation to public health, where the focus is on prevention and quality of life, as well as within research and education, which continually produce new knowledge, new talents and new innovative solutions.

ACTIVE Institute is an association in Aarhus, which gathers businesses, organisations, public institutions and research within sports, exercise and physical activities. ACTIVE Institute functions as a major actor in relation to creating a dynamic and solution-oriented environment around the field of physical activity, sports, exercise, health and experiences. In this environment, large as well as small businesses, organisations and public institutions, researchers and students meet and collaborate in an interdisciplinary, creative and open network.

The vision of the Marselis Sports city is all about creating a knowledge environment within sports and physical activities. Here the synergy between researchers, students, public agencies and private businesses will contribute to further knowledge and activity concerning sports and experiences.
