University city

THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATION OF STUDENTS IN DENMARK > Aarhus is an attractive University city that attracts more and more students each year. In 2011 more than 42,000 students are enrolled in more than 130 different lines of education at the city’s many higher education institutions, and every eighth student comes from abroad. An ever closer collaboration between the different institutions and the business community is contributing to the educational institutions and the students becoming even more attractive to the businesses.

Skilled labour

Counting more than 32,000 students at undergraduate- and graduate level alone, and a ranking in “TOP100” among the world’s 17,000 universities, the University of Aarhus represents the spearhead of the educational sector in Aarhus. Furthermore, VIA University College is the largest university college in Denmark with the country’s highest number of applicants to programmes on welfare. In addition, a range of artistic, mercantile, technical and social science educational institutions all contribute to the wide educational range in Aarhus.

This width in the educational supply provides rich recruitment opportunities for the city’s businesses, while the depth of the lines of education provides the opportunity for employing highly specialised employees. Meanwhile, close collaborations between the different educational institutions contribute to creating strong, interdisciplinary candidates for the business community.

A University city equipped for the future

As a university city Aarhus is undergoing rapid development. The city has the largest percentage concentration of students, in relation to population, in Denmark, and this is a positioning that Aarhus wants to maintain and strengthen in the future. Rural policy will focus on Aarhus as an education- and research centre, and the number of students in Aarhus is expected to increase by 10,000 Danish and 5,000 international students during the next ten years. This easy access to qualified labour and research is to a large extent contributing to secure the business community in Aarhus for the future.
